POPLUAR EVENT
A DHN TEAM EVENT
This event will be run by the DEAD HAUNTED NIGHTS TEAM of experts;
the only team Phil Whyman entrusts to run these events in his absence.
Situated in the sprawling countryside of East Sussex lies the historical 13th century Michelham Priory; one of the most haunted buildings in the south of England.
HISTORY
Dating back almost 800 years, Michelham Priory was originally used by Augustinian canons until the dissolution ordered by King Henry VIII in 1537.
It was around this time that extensive work was carried out at the property, notably in the form of a Tudor wing being added. The watermill at Michelham Priory is believed to date back to the 1400's or even earlier, with recorded documentation mentioning that milling took place on the land from 1434. The priory also boasts the longest medieval water-filled moat in England.
Michelham Priory was the location for the pilot episode of the show Most Haunted, and was used again for their 100th episode,
GHOSTS & HAUNTINGS
With so much history to its name it's no small wonder that many regard Michelham Priory as one of the most haunted locations in the south of England.
THE LITTLE GIRL
One of the saddest figures reputed to haunt the priory is thought to be that of a little girl. She is believed to hide in the priest hole at the top of the main stairs, which is hidden behind the wooden panelling there. It is alleged that she is being chased and harassed by another of Michelham's ghostly inhabitants Thomas Sackville, a previous owner of the priory.
THE MONK, THE MAID, THE LADY & THE LITTLE BOY
Several visitors and guests at Michelham Priory have reported sseing these figures in different parts of the building. The monk - dressed in robes and wearing a dark hood - has been seen it what appears to be his favourite haunt; the undercroft.
A forlorn figure of a maid servant has been witnessed on the stairs and in the main hall area, and a spectral figure of an unknown Lady has been seen walking the corridors and rooms. She is described as wearing the clothes of a bygone era. Meanwhile, a little boy is said to wander the kitchens.
THE GREY LADY
No haunted place would be seen dead (excuse the pun) without a Grey Lady, and Michelham Priory is no exception. She has been seen in the guests bedrooms, staring down at them as they lay in bed.
